film setting & inspiration

Created by Goretopia Studio founder Jessie Burdett, this horror fashion collection and accompanying film draws influence from the work of Ryan Murphy; American Horror Story, American Horror Stories and Scream Queens. The narrative in set in a school and based on the premise that any living beings who die there will spend the rest of eternity trapped as sentient spirits, haunting the halls. The collection encapsulates four characters; a clown, an alien, a mutant dinner lady and a future alien/human hybrid. It’s a fun collection which explores horrors inherent campiness and the possibilities of alien invasion and human experimentation.

character designs & process

sallie the freakshow clown (1947)

Forced to join a freak show after the consequences of an alien abduction and being experimented on, Sallie was left horribly disfigured. while escaping another abduction attempt, Sallie takes refuge in a nearby school, where despair drove er to slit her own throat in the bathroom. Unfortunately, death did not free her; her malevolent spirit now roams the school, killing in a jealous rage and stealing the faces of the living to craft her own skin dress.

aliana the nurse (1982)

Disguised as a school nurse, an extra-terrestrial secretly takes control of the school infirmary by using a “perception filter" to hide their true form and appear human. Their agenda is to produce a human/alien hybrid by experimenting on the pupils using CRISPR Cas-9 technology to splice their genes into infants. The chase of their original specimen Sallie the clown led them to the school and met her demise, they sought to find new victims. Their presence marks the beginning of the school’s biological corruption.

chantelle the dinner lady (2007)

Once a harmless, albeit obnoxious, cafeteria worker, she becomes a test subject in the aliens experiments. Her body undergoes a catastrophic transformation when the aliens attempt to splice her DNA with their own, causing her body to produce grotesque mutations, boils and burns, and ultimately kills her. In death, she maintains her position under guise, still controlled by the aliens to poison student meals with mutagenic substances that warp flesh and mind.

Topia the mutant (2042)

An alien-human hybrid from the future engineered in secrecy, grown in a concealed laboratory beneath school grounds and raised among unaware students. As climate collapse accelerates and rising temperatures erode human cognition, people become increasingly vulnerable prey to these beings. The mutant mirrors humanity’s own consumption habits, treating humans as humans treat animals: harvesting flesh, wearing human skin as garments, and reducing identity to nothing more than a resource. Both a monster and a reflection, the mutant embodies a future where survival overrides morality.
